TIGERS BOUNCE BACK IN LONDON

TIGERS BOUNCE BACK IN LONDON

Rob Ashton11 May - 10:05

London Chargers 8 - 44 Bedford Tigers

The Tigers responded to their heavy loss to Hammersmith with a dominant win over playoff favourites London Chargers!

The Tigers had to wait two weeks to right the wrongs of their 60 point defeat to the hands of reigning champions Hammersmith Hill Hoists, but used the time to put in their most dominant performance in a long time!

Rob Ashton said, "It would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves but the lads doubled down on their efforts and really followed the Next Job mantra that we have this year."

Head Coach Matt Lambert echo'd the positive review by calling it, "The best performance" the side has put together since his tenure began.

London Chargers have traditionally been one of the nailed on top four sides and won the competition back in 2016. Up until last year the Tigers had never beaten the Chiswick based side, but have now gone two from two in the capital against them!

The game started as tightly as you'd expect with both sides exchanging solid attacking defensive efforts. Bailey Thomas broke the game open following a kick chase to dot down out wide before Josh Hudson-Lett connected with a Josh Spearing pass to do the same on the left.

The Chargers ground out field position and managed to reduce the arrears temporarily but a try before half time from Lewis Swindells gave the Tigers a ten point buffer at the break.

The second half was more dominant from the Tigers as they doubled down on efforts and really started to click.

Bailey Thomas scored a further two tries while Callum Dockerill, Kayne Chan and Sam Elrick also crossed the white wash to push the Tigers to a 44 point haul and catapult the side to third in the table with a game in hand.

Next weeks game with fourth placed Eastern Rhinos will offer clear separation in the table for the winner as both clubs currently sit on 4 points from the opening 3 rounds.

Tries: Bailey Thomas 3, Sam Elrick, Josh Hudson-Lett, Kayne Chan, Callum Dockerill, Lewis Swindells
Goals: Bailey Thomas 6/8
Man of the Match: Josh Hudson-Lett
