The Tigers men dusted off the cobwebs in style in the club's first game of 2024, beating Cambridge Uni in a preseason friendly.
The two sides have met semi regularly over the past few years with a coaching link between the two clubs. The game was an opportunity for the Tigers to have a look at some new and returning faces it also serves as a solid test for Cambridge ahead of the Rugby League Varsity Match with Oxford in two weeks time!
With very little training prep the performance was far from polished from the Tigers but there was no lack of desire and physicality!
Cambridge opened the scoring with Archie Taylor dotting down under the posts on the 10 minute mark giving them a 6-0 lead. But the Tigers would shut them out for the rest of the game, despite some well drilled play and very close moments.
The new Tigers players embedded themselves well with Isa Mohammed and Marc Adi sharing the three tries and will undoubtedly be players to watch this season.
Club stalwart, Sam Richbell, landed all three conversions, while debutant hooker, Karlos Burr added a penalty at a key point with the game in the balance.
The Tigers will start mens preseason in March with dates to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
